Mechanics Experimental Center and Laboratory
Mechanics Experimental Center
Mechanics Experimental Center is a national comprehensive service platform for continuous talent training, education and teaching research and reform. The main aim of the center is to carry out the undergraduate talent training of 25 engineering majors in the whole school. The center is responsible for the experimental teaching of the courses, including 24 basic mechanics courses of school (i.e. Mechanics of Materials, Theoretical Mechanics and Engineering Mechanics) and 10 specialized courses of department (i.e. Experimental Mechanics, Fracture Mechanics and Fluid Mechanics). Meanwhile, it could preside over the extracurricular scientific and technological innovation and discipline competition activities of college students. Besides, the center carries out the open engineering experiments (practice) between teachers and students, as well as undertakes scientific research and social service.
At present, the Mechanics Experiment Center contains 51 full-time and part-time teachers, 22 laboratories, usable area of 3500 m2 and 700 sets of equipment. The total assets reach 25 million yuan. There are two national teaching teams: “Mechanics Teaching Base” and “Engineering Mechanics”. The center was awarded the title of “Sichuan Experiment Teaching Demonstration Center” in 2001, the “National Engineering Basic Course Mechanics Base” in 2004, the “National Mechanical Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center” in 2006, and the “Sichuan Basic and Applied Mechanics Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Center” in 2016. Overall, as a national experimental teaching demonstration one, the center has been playing a leading demonstrating and radiating role in the construction and development, personnel training, teaching reform and experimental teaching characteristics.
Intensity and Vibration Key Laboratory of Universities in Sichuan Province
In 1995, the Intensity and Vibration Key Laboratory of Universities in Sichuan Province was established with the approval of the Education Department of Sichuan Province. It consists of three parts: Engineering Mechanics Laboratory, Intensity Laboratory, Vibration Shock and Noise Laboratory. The laboratory covers an area of 1600 m2, with MTS testing machine, HP vibration analyzer, B&K noise testing system and other advanced test equipment, with equipment assets of 15 million yuan. The laboratory sets up several research directions, such as intensity, damage and fracture of materials and structures, vibration theory and application, dynamic analysis of complex engineering structures, environmental vibration and noise, etc. Based on the basic subject research and engineering application, the laboratory promotes the development of mechanics and related disciplines. To sum up, it is an important experimental teaching and scientific research platform for high-level talent training, scientific research and engineering service in mechanics.
Applied Mechanics and Structure Safety Key Laboratory of Sichuan Province
According to the review and approval of Department of Science and Technology of Sichuan Province, the Applied Mechanics and Structure Safety Key Laboratory of Sichuan Province was established in our school in 2004. It is an important scientific research platform supported by the first-class discipline of mechanics. The laboratory includes 2 experimental halls and 8 sub labs covering an area of 3200 m2. There are lots of advanced experimental equipment, such as multi specification series of material testing machine system and high-frequency fatigue testing machine, low-speed wind tunnel, laser vibration meter, atomic force microscope, large tonnage electromagnetic vibration table, impact testing machine, high-speed impact system, high-speed visual testing system, numerical simulation platform and others. The assets of the above equipment reach 60 million yuan. The laboratory sets up three research directions, namely fatigue and fracture mechanics and structural safety assessment, structural vibration and dynamic intensity analysis, and computational mechanics and engineering structure simulation. With the characteristics of interdisciplinary and cross-industrial collaborative research, the laboratory focuses on structural safety issues in the fields of transport vehicles, rapid transit, high-speed railway, energy engineering and major equipment, and carries out the basic theory and technology research of applied mechanics. Up to now, there are 45 high-level researchers highlighting the frontier research, including mechanical basic theory, testing technology and numerical simulation. They have made outstanding achievements in high-level papers, creations, engineering services, and high-level personnel training.
